These questions were central to the polis Convention 2025 in Düsseldorf – one of the most significant platforms for urban development, the real estate industry, and municipal future strategies in the German-speaking region. This year, it also became clear: the challenges facing our cities are complex, yet solvable – provided that politics, business, and technology collaborate effectively.

Prioritizing Existing Stock over New Construction: ESG in Focus

At the networking event Turn2Green, organized by our partner LiWooD, PROBIS discussed the role of sustainable urban development and how ESG criteria can be integrated into project controlling. The shift from demolition to preservation strategies is gaining increasing relevance – both from an ecological and economic perspective.
Repurposing, adding stories, and vertical densification are now more than just architectural alternatives – they are key responses to CO₂ budgets, land scarcity, and social demands.

What is becoming clear: Without reliable data and digital control, neither ESG-compliant transformations nor economically viable new constructions are achievable.
