After around four years of construction, Frankfurt Airport opened Pier A-Plus, the 800-metre-long western extension of Terminal 1, on schedule in October 2012. With the extension planned and realised by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp), Germany's largest air traffic hub can now handle around 65 million passengers a year.
The new terminal considerably simplifies and accelerates the handling process at Lufthansa's most important hub. It has seven handling positions for long-haul aircraft: Four of them are designed for Airbus A380 double-deckers, while the other three positions, each with two jetways, are available for use by Boeing 747-8s and Airbus A340s. Alternatively, 11 short-haul aircraft can be handled in parallel for maximum flexibility.

In addition to comprehensive cost management services from emproc, PROBIS Control was used in all areas of project control and to cover all reporting. In addition, interfaces to SAP were provided.
