Airport Expansion South Terminal 3 Frankfurt am Main

Terminal 3 is currently under construction on the former US military base grounds in the south of Frankfurt Airport. Upon its completion in 2023, the new terminal will be capable of handling up to 21 million departing or arriving passengers annually. In its full expansion, Terminal 3 is designed to accommodate approximately 25 million passengers. The terminal's three construction phases facilitate a modular approach, allowing for adjustments based on capacity demands.

In 2005, Frankfurt architect Prof. Christoph Mäckler won Fraport's realization competition, with his design particularly impressing due to its modernity. Abundant natural light provides significant warmth and illumination in the large spaces, largely eliminating the need for artificial sources. Thanks to efficient construction methods and modern technology, it requires minimal heating energy.
