The Elbtower is under development by SIGNA Prime Holding in the eastern district of HafenCity Hamburg. David Chipperfield Architects from Berlin is the firm behind the design of Germany's third-tallest building, which will stand approximately 245 meters high. Initial planning concepts emerged in 2018, and construction began in early 2021.
The building encompasses a total gross floor area (GFA) of over 140,000 m². The primary use of the property is office space, accounting for approximately 70,000 m² GFA. Additionally, upon completion, the building will accommodate retail areas, gastronomic facilities, a fitness center, and a hotel.
Thanks to a smart energy concept, the Elbtower is almost CO2-neutral. The thermal energy required for its operation is sourced from waste heat, district heating, and industrial process heat.
