After approximately four years of construction, Frankfurt Airport opened Pier A-Plus—the 800-meter-long western extension of Terminal 1—in October 2012, as scheduled. With this expansion, designed by gmp, Germany’s largest air traffic hub can now handle approximately 65 million passengers per year. It features seven boarding gates for long-haul aircraft, four of which are designed for the Airbus A380.
