FAIR combines building construction, accelerator technology, and experimental facilities into a single integrated schedule. With numerous contractors, thousands of invoices per year, and multiple funding partners, the project requires a verifiable overview of budgets, commitments, and cash outflows.
PROBIS Control is the central cost model: budgets by award unit and funding source, contracts, contract amendments, invoices, and cash outflows are all integrated into a single data structure. PROBIS Workflows routes each invoice through defined roles, using AI-powered document recognition and an SAP interface; IT consultants provide on-site support to the team.
The result is transparent cost accounting across all funders and partners. Budget amendments are clearly visible against the original plan, the use of public funds is fully auditable, and reporting to the governing bodies comes from a single source.

The PROBIS modules used in this project, displayed on illustrative screens with sample data.

FAIR GmbH, in collaboration with the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt, is building one of the world’s largest research construction projects, supported by international partners and approximately 3,000 researchers.
